100 Women Who Care - Polk/Burnett recently held their May quarterly meeting at The Lodge at Crooked Lake in Siren. It was a special night for the group as they celebrated surpassing a donation milestone of $250,000. The group, founded by Julie Hall, Christine Moeller, and Tammy Twedt-Close, held their first meeting in August 2018 with just 49 members. Since that time, 252 women have made donations on behalf of the group, whose active membership sits at approximately 175 women. Hall said, “This group has grown and prospered beyond all of our wildest expectations! What began as a “hey, what if we did this…” idea has now benefitted 25 Burnett and Polk County non-profit groups to the tune of over $263,000! It’s been such a rewarding and fun experience and we look forward to the future and making many more donations with this group of women!"
At the meeting, four non-profit groups presented to the women, explaining their missions, needs, and what they would do with the donation if they were selected to receive it. Members voted for the group they deemed most deserving, ultimately choosing to award $10,000 to the first place winner, the Burnett County Family Resource Center, and $4,100 to the second place organization, Frederic Arts. The Burnett County Family Resource center is a group whose mission is to serve all families by providing opportunities and activities that promote healthy families and safe communities. The organization will use the donated funds to develop a well designed and maintained digital presence that will give them the ability to offer curriculum, links to trusted informational blogs and sites, and more while reaching and supporting more families virtually. Frederic Arts will use their donated funds to make building improvements that will allow them to welcome people of all ages and abilities to enjoy a variety of arts and music programming. 100 Women Who Care - Polk/Burnett meets quarterly, on the second Wednesday evening of February, May, August, and November and plan to hold their next meeting on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at Wilkins Bar & Resort in Luck.
