SIREN – 100 Women Who Care - Polk/Burnett recently held their May quarterly meeting at The Lodge at Crooked Lake in Siren. At the meeting, four non-profit groups presented to the women, explaining their missions, needs, and what they would do with the donation if they were selected to receive it. Members voted for the group they deemed most deserving, ultimately choosing to award $10,400 to the first place winner, the Larsen Family Library, an organization that serves the community in many wonderful ways including making books and other materials available, giving access to public computers and printers, and Tuesday morning story time - to name just a few. The organization will use the donated funds to expand their Snappy Crafts and Summer Reading Programs. The organization that received the second most votes was Burnett County 4-H, a group that is part of the nation's largest youth development and empowerment organization. They will use their $2,600 donation towards the purchase of a customized trailer to safely transport archery equipment to make it accessible to more youth throughout the county.
