SIREN – 100 Women Who Care - Polk/Burnett recently held their November quarterly meeting at Zhashagiins Event Center in Siren. At the meeting, three non-profit groups presented to the women, explaining their missions, needs, and what they would do with the donation if they were selected to receive it. Members voted for the group they deemed most deserving, ultimately choosing to award $13,700 to the Friends of WI Interstate and Straight Lake Parks, an organization whose mission is to support, assist, and promote the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources through interpretive, scientific, historical, educational, and related visitor services. The organization will use the donated funds to support area school districts' field trip programs and welcome approximately 7,500 children to the parks.
At the meeting, Chris Moeller, one of the groups founders, made some important announcements. First, some great news! Earlier this year the 100 Women Who Care - Polk/Burnett organizers were notified of another potential donation source for their winners through the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation. This foundation offers matching funds, up to $5,000, to the chosen non-profits for various 100 Who Care organizations. After registering with them and completing applications on behalf of the past two winners, both have been approved! T.H.U.G. Ministries has now received the entire $5,000 match and NACF is awaiting notification of the match amount due in early December. Second, in response to the large size of the group's more recent donations, which now potentially include the Schulze Foundation match, the founders have made a few changes to the structure of the organization. Beginning in 2024, FOUR nonprofits will be chosen to present at each meeting instead of three. The winning organization will receive $10,000 (assuming donations meet or exceed that amount) along with the opportunity for matching Schulze Foundation funds. The 'runner up' will receive the balance of funds donated beyond the $10,000 - typically a significant amount towards their proposed project. These changes will increase the number of groups that are annually able to present at meetings as well as double the number of non-profits receiving donations! 100 Women Who Care - Polk/Burnett meets quarterly, on the second Wednesday evening of February, May, August and November and plan to hold their next meeting on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at Wilkins Bar & Resort in Luck.
