SIREN - The philanthropic group 100 Women Who Care - Polk/Burnett held their second quarterly meeting on Wednesday, November 14th at Northwoods Crossing Event Center in Siren. The meeting, welcoming 21 new members, was a tremendous success and the evening culminated with a $7,000 donation being made to Community Referral Agency.
Community Referral Agency’s mission is “To eliminate domestic and sexual violence and its negative effects in our community by providing shelter and services that promote peace, justice and safety”. In 2017 CRA provided 6,029 bed nights to survivors of domestic and sexual abuse and their families, and provided 18,087 meals to shelter residents and their families. Cheri Moats spoke on behalf of the group and explained they are in need of a new, larger van to help transport the survivors and their families to the safe places they need to be. 100 Women Who Care - Polk/Burnett are proud to have contributed to their worthy cause. 100 Women Who Care - Poik/Burnett meets quarterly, on the second Wednesday evening of February, May, August and November. At each meeting, three local charities are allowed to give a brief presentation to educate members about their cause. At the end of the presentations, each member votes anonymously for the charity they feel is most deserving to receive the groups quarterly donation. Three different charities will be chosen at random from all applicants to present each quarter. All charities who apply must operate in Polk and/or Burnett, Wisconsin counties and have 501(c)(3) status. Once a charity is selected to receive a donation, they will be removed from the eligible pool for two calendar years. If a charity is chosen to present, but is not chosen as the selected charity, they will be added back to the drawing at the next quarterly meeting. 100 Women Who Care - Polk/Burnett is accepting new members and non-profit group applications. If you are interested in joining the group or submitting a charity application, please send an inquiry to [email protected]. Founding member Julie Hall said “We are thrilled with the momentum of our group and are looking forward to continuing to make impactful donations to different causes in our community. We have been able to donate at total of $11,900 in our first two meetings and I’m excited to watch that number rise!" The group will hold their next meeting on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at Northwoods Crossing Event Center in Siren. The founding members would like to recognize and thank Jake and Holly Mangelsen for generously donating the use of the event center for the quarterly meetings.
